Cross-platform Licensing With Autodesk

Cross-platform-licensingDo you want to use your software on two machines but you have Windows on your workstation in the office and have a Mac at home? Well don't worry you can activate your AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT software using the same license.

It doesn't matter whether you have purchased the Windows or Mac version for either product you are entitled to cross-platform licensing between products of the same version year.

However, Cross-platform licensing is not available for the versions of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT for Mac and Windows before 2013. The same goes for AutoCAD Product Suites including Revit LT Suite, AutoCAD Design Suite and many other Autodesk software products.

So how do you do this?

For example, if you own a serial number for the Windows version of AutoCAD 2014 or AutoCAD LT 2014 you may install AutoCAD for Mac 2014 or AutoCAD LT for Mac 2014 using the serial number and product key of the Windows version.

Similarly, if you own AutoCAD for Mac 2014 or AutoCAD LT for Mac 2014, you may install the Windows version and use the Mac version serial number and product key during installation and online activation.

You are able to do this because Autodesk allow you to install and activate the same serial number and product keys two times in a 12-month period; these can either be two Windows activations, two Mac activations or one Windows plus Mac activation – as I explained above.

Unfortunately, if you did purchase your AutoCAD LT for Mac from the Mac App Store then cross-platform licensing is not available.

Will this affect your work?

No it won't, your DWG files will appear exactly the same on both machines. As for your customisations including LISP, Scripts, Sheet Sets these are compatible which makes it easy to work within an environment where your operating systems are mixed.

If your product is 2012 or order and you want to utilise the ability of cross-platform licensing then you have to opportunity to upgrade and save up to 30% when you add Maintenance Subscription. For information on how you can save take a look at our Special Offers page.
