Autodesk recently announced that they will be releasing their very own 3D game engine and real time rendering software – Autodesk Stingray. Available to purchase on the 19th August, the short wait will be well worth it.
Autodesk Stingray was originally called 'Bitsquid' and this high end gaming engine was acquired by Autodesk back in 2014. The majority of features and functions within the original gaming engine will remain the same but Autodesk have developed a new interface for the programme; which links in with the cohesive design of their numerous other software programmes.
If you are part of a game development team, you are probably wondering what makes this gaming engine so different from the many others out there. The simple answer is that Autodesk owns every step, making the design and development process quicker and easier for you, whilst still allowing you to produce visually stunning games.
Moreover, if you are in the Architectural or Design and visualisation industry then Autodesk Stingray would be a perfect addition to your design toolset. The software enables you to create spectacular, high quality, interactive 3D experiences, over multiple platforms.
Design, build, test and deploy.
A key function of Autodesk Stingray is the ability to preview work in 'near-real' time. For example if you have made a design in 3ds max and/or Maya and you want to preview that in Stingray, this can happen in literally a flash by simply pressing an update button within the software.
Furthermore, most of us nowadays expect games to be compatible with almost every platform: IOS, Windows, Xbox etc. and with Autodesk Stingray you can edit a certain feature and then instantly see the results on a number of different platforms through 'Live link multi-platform testing'.
A list of other features within the gaming engine include:
• Direct link to 3ds Max
• Easy workflow from BIM to interactive
• Real time 3D rendering
• Art to engine workflows
• Stunning rendering and visuals
• User friendly scripting tools
• Data driven core architecture
• Integrated game development tools
• Simplified testing and deployment
It doesn't matter if you are a complete newbie or one of the pro's when it comes to game making, Autodesk Stingray is made for all abilities and will allow you to 'better visualise projects and present ideas to clients'.
